The property sits directly facing the Church of San Pietro, one of the most photographed landmarks in all of Liguria, and overlooks the channel separating the village from Palmaria Island.

Yes. Portovenere is served by regular ferries and local boats that connect directly to Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare. The crossing to Riomaggiore takes approximately 15–20 minutes. Portovenere is often described as the sixth and most beautiful of the Cinque Terre villages, and unlike the five official ones, it has no crowds at the accommodation level, so you return each evening to a village that is genuinely quiet.

By ferry from Portovenere harbour, Riomaggiore is approximately 15–20 minutes. Manarola is around 25 minutes, Vernazza 35–40 minutes, and Monterosso al Mare about 50 minutes. By car via La Spezia, Riomaggiore is reachable in roughly 20–25 minutes. Ferries run seasonally from spring through autumn; check current schedules with Navigazione Golfo dei Poeti.

The Gulf of Poets is the bay enclosed between Portovenere to the south and Lerici to the north, with La Spezia at its head. Since the 19th century, the gulf has attracted artists, writers, and travellers from around the world and it takes its name from the English Romantic poets. Lord Byron swam across it regularly to visit the Shelleys, who had settled on the eastern shore at Lerici. Mary, author of Frankenstein, drew inspiration from the gulf's dramatic landscapes for her writing, and her husband Percy Bysshe Shelley drowned in 1822, on these same waters. San Pietro Terrace by the Sea sits at the southwestern tip of the gulf, enjoying one of its most spectacular vantage points.

Two minutes walk, and from the top of the church you can watch the most beautiful sunset in Liguria: the open sea, the Gulf of Poets, the Cinque Terre, and Byron's Grotto just below.

Yes. Palmaria Island sits directly in front of the property, separated from Portovenere by a narrow channel roughly 400 metres wide. The island is visible from the terrace and from the living room and bedroom windows at all hours, including at night when it is lit up. Boat trips to Palmaria (5 minutes) depart from the village harbour a short walk from the property.

Yes. The property's defining feature is its private panoramic terrace, which is not shared with other guests or residents. The terrace is the primary outdoor living space and is large enough for dining and relaxing watching the views.

A private transfer from any airport can be arranged upon request. The closest airport is Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA), approximately 75 kilometres away. Genoa Cristoforo Colombo (GOA) is roughly 110 kilometres, and Milan Malpensa (MXP) approximately 230 kilometres.

Portovenere's historic centre, like the villages of the Cinque Terre, is closed to traffic. All homes in the village can only be reached on foot via its characteristic pedestrian lanes. The property has access to a dedicated private secured parking space, located right at the entrance to the pedestrian area, bookable upon request. The absence of cars is one of the things that makes Portovenere so special: its narrow ancient streets are entirely your own, just as they were in the Middle Ages.

The village offers swimming from the rocks and from Palmaria Island, beach clubs, boat trips to the three islands of the archipelago (Palmaria, Tino, and Tinetto), hiking on the Ligurian coastal paths, and exploring the Doria Castle above the village. The Church of St. Peter dates to the 12th century and its clifftop position above Byron's Grotto is one of the iconic images of the Italian Riviera. The main street (Via Capellini) is lined with restaurants and shops.

Portovenere has a concentration of excellent seafood restaurants for its size. The property is steps from the seafront, where most of the village's main restaurants are located. The local speciality is mussels from the Gulf of La Spezia, known as mitili di La Spezia and protected by a European geographical indication. Trofie al pesto and farinata di ceci are also staples. For many travellers, yes. The Cinque Terre villages particularly are extremely congested in high season and accommodation quality is inconsistent. Portovenere offers fewer crowds, better food, comparable coastal scenery, and very easy ferry access or private boat trips to all five villages. It also has the added interest of the Church of St. Peter, the Doria Castle, the island archipelago, and a more intact historic fabric than most of the Cinque Terre.
